Our new 15" half round mold will create a 15" diameter sphere by creating two halves and mortaring them together. See the insert photo above which shows you how to use the 12" sphere mold as an insert to create a hollow ball so that it will be lighter weight. You may also pour concrete into the entire mold for a heavy solid ball. Basic How To: * Use any brand of concrete mix from a hardware/home improvement store * Very lightly lubricate mold with a mold relase agent or vegetable oil (cooking spray works great) * Mix well with water enough to moisten to the consistency similar to a chunky peanut butter or cookie dough (!) If creating a hollow ball pour the concrete to apx. 3" from the top of the mold, then press the smaller half round mold into the concrete to create the center. You may remove the insert mold from the center after a couple of hours. * Let concrete set up in mold 1 or 2 days, then release by turning upside down on soft surface * Mosaic Options: leave concrete balls natural -- or add mosaics after the ball is cured. Some ideas are ceramic tile, stained glass, pebbles/stones, sea shells, etc. which can be added by using tile adhesive, then grout them a day after as you would with any other tile project. * Color Options: you can add concrete colorants to your concrete mix (purchase at any hardware type store in the concrete area) or stain the balls using concrete stains. * Other Uses: create a planter by using only a half mold which has been made hollow by using an insert.
